This summer, I’m determined to keep my plants alive. That may seem like an easy task, but somehow it’s not as easy as it appears. Between the heat wave currently causing temperatures across the country to hit the high 90’s (and even into the triple digits), it can be challenging keeping your flowers and other outdoor plants alive. Am I over-watering? Underwatering? It’s hard to keep track of each plant’s specific needs, am I right?
Today, we’re blogging about your watering outdoor plants. We’ve officially deemed today’s post: HAPARI’s Plant Watering Guide. So, you can keep this page bookmarked (or pin it!) and reference it for each of your plants needs.
Hapari’s Guide to Watering Outdoor Plants
Temperatures Make A Difference
It’s important to remember that the guide above is used for moderate temperatures (somewhere between 60-70 degree). When temperatures start reaching scorching numbers (like the high 90s), you may need to water more frequently. The rule to add another ½” of water to your plants for every 10 degrees it is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. That means if it’s 90 degrees outside, you may need to double or triple your watering per our guide.
Watering outdoor plants plays a huge part in keeping them alive. However, there are other factors too. Make sure your plants get adequate sunlight. Did you know that most flowers need 6-8 hours of sunlight a day? That’s a lot of sun! Other tips to keep in mind:
- Plants need sunlight! Check plant info before planting to make sure you have enough sunlight for the plant to grow.
- Make sure your soil is soft and fresh.
- Add mulch around plants to keep out weeds.
- Watch for bugs that can harm or kill plants.
- Make sure plants have enough room for their roots to grow; this is especially important if you’re using potted plants.
- Don’t overwater your plants – (doing this drowns the plant).
