It’s almost Halloween and we are so excited to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. In today’s post we’re rounding up some of our favorite Halloween crafts to get the whole family excited for the holiday. Check out these ideas below!

5. Paint your Jack O’Lanterns

Carving pumpkins can be really hard for kids to do, especially little ones, so it ends up being a lot of work for mom and dad. Try painting pumpkins this year instead! It’s much easier and can be less messy. Set up paint stations including different paint colors, brushes, cups of water, hot glue guns, and different decoration options like mini witch hats, googly eyes, and sparkles. Your kids will love decorating their pumpkins! And, you’ll get to actually enjoy the activity instead of ending up carving everyone’s pumpkins for them. The only downside -- no pumpkin seeds to roast afterwards!

4. Halloween face Painting

This Halloween try busting out the face paint! Whether it’s painting your kids’ faces into different characters or letting your kids try to paint their own faces, this is a fun activity to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. Need some help getting started or ideas on what to paint? We love these face painting tutorials from Youtuber Kait Nichole. Try a few different face paint options to test out what your kids want to be for Halloween. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. One warning: this will be super messy. That’s okay! Just make sure to do it in an area that can be cleaned up easily. And, make sure to pull back your kids hair so no paint gets in it.

3. DIY Bat Decorations

We love the bat decorations that have been very popular the last few years. No need to buy these though because they’re incredibly easy to make. To do this Halloween craft, all you’ll need is some black construction paper, scissors, and some tape. Start by drawing out a batwing on a piece of paper. Check out this guide from HGTV if you need help getting the shape right. This will be the “bat template” you can use over and over. Create a few different sizes of bat templates for variety. Fold a piece of black construction paper in half and trace the template onto the paper. Cut out the template with your scissors. Then unfold the paper. Voila! It’s a bat - simple and as easy as that! Tape your bats up anywhere you want to add festive Halloween decor.

2. Accordion Circle Pumpkin Craft

Ready to make a fun craft your kids will love?! Make this accordion pumpkin craft. To do this, you’ll need orange and black construction paper, glue, scissors, and string. Start by putting out three sheets of orange construction paper. Fold the paper into an “accordion” i.e. fold a 1” section of the paper flat, then flip the paper over and do it again on the other side, repeat until the whole paper is folded up like an accordion. Do this with three sheets of paper. Then pinch each piece of paper in the middle to form a fan. Combine the three sheets together to make a circle. This will be your pumpkin base. Cut out eyes, a nose, and a mouth to glue on. Add a string loop to hang it and you’re done! Check out a tutorial from Fantastic Fun and Learning here for more details.

1. Ghost Straws

Make these fun ghost straws to add a spooky and festive touch to your kids' drinks this month! Want your kids to drink more milk or perhaps a green smoothie? These ghost straws are sure to help your cause. They’re also incredibly easy to make. Get some white construction paper, fold it in half and cut out a little ghost shape. Use a black marker to draw fun faces. Tape two ghosts together and viola! You’re done! Simply slip over a straw to add a fun Halloween element to any drink!
