We love shopping online—it’s convenient, fast, and easy. When it comes to buying swimwear online, it should be that way too! However, we know a lot of people can be hesitant to buy a swimsuit online. So, in today’s post, we’re easing those concerns by sharing five tips that will make shopping for a swimsuit online a breeze. Check out the tips below.

1. Narrow down your top style choices

First things first, know which styles you want to try. Are you ready to try a trendy style of the season or do you want to stick to a more traditional silhouette? How much coverage do you want? Do you want to go with a swimsuit that’s two-piece, one-piece, or something in between like a tankini? Before you buy anything, narrow down which styles you like and what features you want in a swimsuit. For example, maybe you’re looking for a high-waisted swimsuit bottom for tummy control or maybe you want an underwire in your top. Knowing what you do and don’t want will help narrow down your options and help ensure your online shopping is a success!

2. Find a brand you trust—with a great return policy

For a successful experience buying swimwear online, find a swimwear brand you trust. This is important! Shopping online can either be a great experience or a terrible one—depending on the brand you purchase from. Start by being picky about where you buy from and make sure to only buy from a swimwear brand that wants you to love your swimsuit.

Here are a few tips to determine this:

  • Check the return policy to make sure it’s easy to send back any items that don’t work. Brands that believe in the quality and durability of their products will have generous return policies.
  • Understand the manufacturing process to know how the swimwear is made. Does it align with your values and ethics?
  • Check the customer reviews to know what others are saying about the quality, fit, and design of the products. Are there a lot of reviews? Do they seem genuine?

For example, at HAPARI we’re an online-first swimwear brand so we make it easy to buy our swimwear online by having a no-hassle return policy. We’re committed to ensuring you love your HAPARI suit. But, if you don’t for some reason, just send back any unused and unworn items within 30-days for a full refund. Easy right?

3. Know your measurements

Next up, know your measurements. We recently wrote a blog post on how to measure for a swimsuit. Follow the tips to take your bust, waist, hip and torso measurements. Once you have your measurements, you can compare your sizing with each brand’s size chart to know which size to buy. With so many brands using different sizing references, this will help you know the best size swimwear to buy for your body. And, because most swimwear is sold separately these days, knowing your measurements can help you buy the right size swimwear for your top and your bottom—mixing and matching for a perfectly fitted suit!

4. Order your favorite suit in at least two sizes

Now that you know which swimsuit you want to purchase and your measurements, we recommend ordering your favorite suit in at least two sizes. Order the size you think you need according to the size chart and then either order one size up or down, depending on your preferences. When the swimsuits arrive, try them on and see which size fits better. Which do you feel more comfortable in? Then keep that one and return the other. This trick is key for online swimwear shopping—it negates the concerns about not being able to try a swimsuit on before buying. If you’re in between sizing, order a few different sizes and see what fits best. The key is to try each size on and go with whichever you feel most comfortable and supported in.

5. Try your suits on in good lighting

The best thing about buying swimwear online? You don’t have to try it on in a public dressing room notorious for bad lighting, curved mirrors, and pushy sales reps. When you buy online you can try your suit on in the comfort of your home. Ahhh, doesn’t that sound better? We think so. When you try your swimsuit selections on at home, be sure to do so in good lighting. Try natural lighting from a large window. And, be sure to do so in front of a full length mirror. Do some jumps, bend over, sit down, etc. so you can see how the suit fits as you move.
